Electrostatic Discharge

Under certain conditions vehicle fires can occur via the fuel system. To counteract this scenario you and your customers may specify that the entire fuel system be able to dissipate an electric charge. If this is a real situation that you and your customers face, Precix now offers four electrostatic discharge compounds for specification in your system:

F98: Semi-Conductive Fluorocarbon material that utilizes carbon nano-tubes (10^1 – 10^3 ohm cm-typical)
F126: Enhanced semi-Conductive Fluorocarbon material that utilizes carbon nano-tubes (under 5 ohm-cm typical).
Below is information on both offerings. Please Contact Precix Materials Engineering to learn more.

Both Materials Offering the Following:

Benefits

  • Excellent Heat Resistance
  • Excellent Resistance to Fuels/ Flex Fuels
  • Fluorocarbon as a base
  • Semi-Conductive High-fluorine (GF® Type)
  • Strong Ability to Dissipate Static Charge
  • Superior Property Profile

Applications

  • Aggressive Oil and Chemical Environments
  • Fuel Connection O-Rings and Seals
  • Systems with “Static Charge” Concerns

Material

  • Black, 100% Virgin Material
  • Meets typical automotive fuel line connector (primary seal) specifications
  • Typical Volume Resistivity of 10^1 – 10^3 ohm-cm

What is different about F98/F126 as compared to conductive carbon black filled products?

  • Better maintains conductivity under load/compression – the spaghetti-like Nanotubes still carry the charge even under normal ring compression of, say, 25%.
  • F98/F126 utilizes carbon Nanotubes in place of conductive carbon black. Nanotubes form excellent networks that allow for superior static dissipation through the elastomer. Static dissipation is achieved with very low loading which preserves more of the base polymer properties, which translates into superior sealability while dissipating static charges. Random distribution (better dispersion) within the o-ring/seal provides for uniform conductivity and balanced shrink rates.
  • Reduced permeation rates – the introduction of Nanotubes reduces through-seal permeation rates, as compared to standard GF types, by 3 – 5X. More ->
Reduced volume swell in fuel C and 85/15 blends:
  • Softer and more flexible than carbon black filled offerings (79 duro vs the 85+ of the typical conductive carbon black offering).
